my garden

So today I planted my first plant at my new place.  Its a Helichrysum petiolare "limelight" aka Licorice plant.  It a beautiful shrub that has multiple medicinal purposes, but mostly for the purpose of respiration.  It also can be used as a pain reliever and as a bug repellent. It is drought tolerant, as well.  So if I am not around and my roommates don't want to take care of the yard, they don't have to.  I think this is going to be a theme for my garden.

To celebrate my new job

I made Ghiradelli chocolate chip, walnut and raisin cookies.  They were good. MMmmm!
There is a recipe on the back of the Ghiradelli semi sweet baking chocolate chip bag, but I added the raisins.  I also didn't use all of the butter and sugar.  Instead I added Orange juice.  delicious treats mmmm!

(This is meant to be spoken, not read)

The moon that looked below, upon me, has seen the sun not yet
but this heart i wear around me has felt a tear of sweat
it trickles from a brow and soaks a pillow case
do to you that has me aroused
and cause this heart to race
a beat as fast as song
from the angels in the night sky
while i feel your touch along
and grasp for air in my mouth, so dry
now robins take angels' ends and sings of sonnet new
she sings the morning hymn
and calls us two to choir
as we leave a little grin on a sheet that has perspired
and the moon that looked below upon me has seen the sun not yet
but this heart I wear around me is soaked from tears of sweat.

The asians use forks
but the black men use chopsticks

Cultures attempting to connect to cultures?
No language barrier broken
would allow them to sit together.

In the hustle and bustle of the lunchroom madness,

I see more Mark Rothko,
than Pablo Picasso.

These bricks were once graced with words
Dancers like Russian ballerinas
but the colors have now faded away
The colors so bright and so bold
are mere memories of the past

There were hands, which caressed the cement, the mortar
Creating beauty
and art
But someone didn't agree
someone had to hide
someone had to flee

the reds, oranges, and yellows
golds, and greens
No more purple, no more white

Everything went black
then blue

When we heard
I thought they were going to cut off your fingers
instead
they pulled out your heart

we all cried the day they painted over it.

Haikus

I
She said write a haiku
I thought hmm...
How do I do that?

II
Writing a haiku
It seems so simple
Like pulling out a tooth.

III
I need another haiku
I lay my head on my pillow
and fall asleep

Youngstown ohio

Seeking the sunlight,
the trees mask
forming rays of golden goddesses
they drip drop dance
down
little vials of golden sun juice

red
orange
yellow
green

pink
and brown
leaves
carpet the moisten earth.

As I walk through the golden goddesses
they drip drop dance down upon
me
in the palm of my hand

blessing me
inviting me
adopting me

On this gray Formica
barren sky-lined city day

they sunlight I sought found me.
