late night thoughts

bootlegs are fantastic. but are they really? they offer a chance for people to sit in the comfort of their own home and watch movies. this means those folks are not spending money on gas or tickets or popcorn, soda, and candy. this is a few dollars, maybe 25 at most for two people. And according to forbes, the average american spends only 1.2% of their money on fees and admission for entertainment purposes. but the money that they are saving allows them to keep their heat on and their water running and their fridge full. it means the person who sells them the bootleg is able to do those same things for themselves. in the broad picture though it costs the music industry 12.5 billion dollars and 71,000 jobs annually, which means each could be earning over 175000 dollars per year. does the person who sells the bootlegs have that kind of earning potential?
